Omega-3 news to get your gums into?

According to a study done by Boston researchers, omega-3 fatty acid products may restore gums back to health by curing periodontal disease inflammation. No great surprise really considering the anti-inflammatory properties inherent in omega-3 fish oil. (By the way did you know that our Omega 3 has around two and a half times better anti-inflammatory properties than most?)

In a recent study, the same researchers found that a family of compounds called resolvins – derived from DHA (docosahexaenoic acid) and given an almost Star Wars name in the form of RvD1 – had some beneficial effects in fighting off gingivalis, the gum disease-causing bacteria in humans.

Coincidently, one of our new staff members who recently joined us from overseas had been having a problem for months with gum inflammation in a small area of his mouth. When he started a couple of months ago he began using our Omega 3 DHA Fish Oil. Guess what...all the gum inflammation has gone. Just another benefit of the fish oil!

Misleading health information – again?

Question: from Meliss

Warren what do you think about this..It was sent to me?

“Dear Meliss:

Probiotics are bacteria and enzymes are acids. To be healthy
you need less bacteria and less acid with more alkaline electron
rich foods and drinks.

High blood pressure is caused by increased acidity and a deficiency of
sodium, magnesium and potassium.

pHour salts and pHlavor salts will help.”

Answer: from Warren

I don't know who sent you this but unfortunately it is typical of the uninformed comments and half truths that circulate the health supplement business.

A granddad again...

A couple of days ago my daughter Selena gave birth to another little girl...her second.  The first is now 12 years old.

I mention this not only because I am pleased to have another granddaughter but to help convey that childbirth can (and should) be a relatively simple and painless experience if done naturally.

I hear so many cases these days in which women tell of horror stories about long agonizing periods in labor, caesarion sections and extended recuperation periods.

Now of course I am not a woman and as such have never experienced childbirth so no doubt some of my lady readers may disagree with what I am about to say because I am a man...but, I will say it nonetheless.

Swine Flu - cause for concern or just more nonsense?

During this week I have watched, with some amusement, news reports about the “dreaded swine flu”.
I say with amusement because indirectly many people are reveling in it. I am specifically referring to the news media, Health Officials and related organizations in various countries along with the World Health Organization. Oh, and let’s not forget about the makers of Tamiflu - although they keep quiet and we cannot hear them rubbing their hands in glee.

Last night on the news here in NZ half of the news was devoted to swine flu and all the headlines were about swine flu. It’s been like that for the last few days.

We in New Zealand have had an extra dose of it because a group of school children arrived back in NZ from Mexico earlier this week with flu symptoms. Some of them have tested positive for the swine flu.

But they are ALL recovering well and most of them will be going back to school today.

So, why all the fuss and why do I suggest it may be just more ‘nonsense’?
