A biased review of Neuro-Natural Serenity?

Question: from Ahmed

I've been really interested in ordering your neuro natural serenity product, as I have read some really great reviews from people that used it, the reviews were from your website and from other web pages from the internet.

However, I stumbled across a website that had a complete review for neuro natural serenity -along with some other products-, some of the things that were mentioned in the website made me wonder to what extent are their claims true.

They first mentioned about the ingredients that are available in your product (L-Glutamine, L-Histidine HCL, L-Taurine, L-Tyrosine and L-Valine) which are all amino acids, and that those ingredients have not been shown to have a significant impact on overall mood or what they call a mood enhancing ingredients, they mentioned that those amino acids are sometimes used for weight loss and muscle building formulas.

Maybe the message is starting to get through?

I saw a video news item the other day talking about how researchers have found that the risk of breast cancers was much lower in women who had higher levels of Vitamin D.

It also said that many Doctors still do not advocate exposure to sunshine which is the best source of Vitamin D because of the risk of skin cancer. When will these Doctors wake up and examine the evidence. The risk of the fatal form of skin cancer is LESS if you have exposure to the sun than if you don't.

Vitamin D in supplements is fine and needed at the modest levels we use...but NOT in mega doses as it can induce toxicity. However, you cannot overdose with Vitamin D from the sun as our body's have the appropriate mechanism's to store any excess for future use.

How important are Enzymes for Good Health?

Question: from Rick

What about the importance of enzymes for good health? Dr. Wong places great emphasis on them (www.totalityofbeing.com/index.html)

Answer: from Warren

I agree with Dr Wong that enzymes are crucial for many processes in the body and the lack of them can prevent our body from receiving the benefits of many nutrients.

He also rightly points out that enzymes are expensive and cannot survive exposure to stomach acid which is why they are rarely seen in supplements.

Inflammation...it takes more than fish oil to control it!

As well as your body having to deal with free radicals, glycation and methylation it also has to fight against chronic inflammation!  This is an ongoing battle which is being waged every second of the day.

If it is not controlled, inflammation will wreak havoc in your body.  In fact, some scientists believe that chronic inflammation is the cause of most age related damage.  This is because excessive inflammation causes toxic chemicals which eat away body tissues, thus leading to heart disease, dementia, arthritis and diabetes just to mention a few.

As with the other three concerns… (free radicals, glycation and methylation), the cause of inflammation cannot be narrowed down to one thing only.  All four issues are interrelated!

For example, let’s take MDA (malondialdehyde). MDA is a dangerous chemical byproduct formed in your body as a result of the action of free radicals on the fatty membranes of your cells.  It is a major factor in the production of AGEs from glycation.  This same chemical, MDA, is also implicated in inflammation.

Nurofen for Babies??

I was astounded to see a very disturbing advertisement on TV last night whilst watching the news!

It was a pharmaceutical advert promoting Nurofen for infants.  Of course it was a ‘lower dose’ version!

What made me particularly ‘mad’ when I saw this is that the ‘authorities’ allow this type of advertising which in my opinion is dangerous whilst at the same time…in New Zealand anyway they are trying to stifle the free flow of information about natural product ingredients.

Why do I think that it is dangerous?

Methylation...more important you may realise!

This is the third article I have prepared on the four key components to slowing down your aging and reducing the risk of degenerative disease. Hope you find it helpful.

Methylation - A simple explanation

"Without methylation you would die in just a few days!"

If your body's methylation is not working at an optimal level it will translate into many different health problems and will accelerate your aging process.

What is methylation?

In simple terms it is a process in which certain chemicals called ‘methyl groups’ are added to various constituents of proteins, DNA and other molecules. These are needed to keep them in good ‘working’ condition.

For example, if the antidepressant, ‘feel-good’ brain chemical serotonin is not methylated it will become inactive which in turns leads to depression! This is just one of the many ‘chemicals’ in the body that need to be methylated and if they are not can lead to serious health consequences.

Living until 114 years!

I just read a news item about the death of a man who was 114 years old.  Researchers in an attempt to establish the reason why he lived so long in good health tested some of his genes and others of the family hoping to find a possible answer.  They found nothing out of the ordinary.

I find it quite amusing how there are so many scientists who think that manipulating genes is the answer to longevity and good health.  The reality is that genes only place a very small role in how long you will live and how healthy you will be throughout your life.  It has been well proven that lifestyle choices and diet will override less than perfect genes.

These scientists should understand that no one component is the answer to a long healthy life.

Glycation...a simple explanation to a complex problem...

This article follows on from the one I did on Free Radicals yesterday.

Glycation...a simple explanation to a complex problem...

Glycation is even more dangerous to your health than free radicals! It is important that you understand what it is, how it is caused and how to protect yourself against it.

In order to appreciate the problems associated with glycation there are some basic biological facts that you need to be aware of.

Firstly, the role that proteins play in your body!

Proteins are valuable biological molecules which are found in almost every part of your body and have a variety of functions. They are present inside the cells making the life of the cell possible. Without them you would not survive as these proteins are needed to carry oxygen and nutrients to the tissues.

Proteins are made up of strings of different amino acids. To function properly they need to be ‘free agents’. In other words they need to remain as singular molecules to move around and perform their tasks.

So far, so good…

However, proteins have ‘enemies’ that they are exposed to every day.
