Herbs more helpful than Drugs for Period Pain...

This is the headline in a recent article in Reuters. According to a study involving nearly 3,500 women in several countries, various Chinese herbs were considered to be more effective than drugs, acupuncture or heat compression.

No big surprise here!

Various herbal preparations have been used throughout time to relieve the discomfort that many women have before and during their menstrual periods. The key of course is using the correct herbs in the correct proportions with the correct co-factors.

Although many women find that the ‘female’ herbs present

Injured knee...

Question: from Elaine

I am 61 years old and have seriously injured my knee - possibly a torn tendon at the miniscus. I desperately need to try to heal this, as everything I do is predicated upon walking, lifting, digging (I'm a gardener). Could you suggest a program which might help with this? I have been trying acupuncture for a while to reduce inflammation, but there's a long way to go. There is a real danger of permanent damage if I can't improve my situation enough to function safely. I'm grateful for any advice.

Answer: from Warren

Yes, a knee injury is certainly something that you want to fix as soon as possible, more so for you being an active person.
You have to do two things. One, to help settle down the inflammation and two to provide the nutrients needed to help with the repair.

If I were you I would this is what I would do:

Your thoughts about Spirulina?

Question: from Leila

1st question - Warren's insight on Spirulina? 2nd question - chlorine - should we install filters...what's the best way to protect our family?

Answer: from Joanna (Medical Nutritionist for Xtend-Life)

Blue-green algae such as Spirulina are a mixture of single celled organisms that have biochemical and cellular similarities to both plant and animal species. While these organisms have the ability to perform photosynthesis like plants, they lack a cell wall. Like animal species, they form many complex glycoproteins. Spirulina and aphanizomenon are the species that have been studied most extensively. Spirulina blue-green algae consists of approximately 65% crude protein, B vitamins, phenylalanine, iron and other minerals.

Bladder infections...best treatment?

Question: from Elizabeth

I've been getting bladder infections for about a month now.  I drink cranberry juice and now take an extract I bought at the supermarket but I was wondering if you have something available.

I would much rather take your products if they are available then those found locally.  The infection seems to clear up for awhile and then comes back again when I no longer drink the juice.  Is there something else I should be doing?  Thanks for your help!  BTW:  your newsletters are wonderful.

Comment: from Warren

Joanna will answer this question.  But, I would like to add something further.  See if you can get some D-Mannose.  This is the best product you can get for bladder infections…better than cranberry juice.

Asthma has Disappeared...

Question: from Dana

Firstly.  Your supplements are the most effective I've ever taken. Xtend life is simply a quality company. I take the Total Balance for Women, Neuro-Naturals (serenity or memory), Omega DHA/Esters, Bone-Protec, and Female Rejuvenator. I suffer from Severe Chronic Sinusitis with Asthma and Asprin allergy (the triad disease).

Since taking the supplements my Asthma has disappeared. The sinusitis is still there though. I have an upcoming Sinus Cat Scan and am anticipating it to look a lot better. My doctor says that because my Asthma is gone, it is a sign that overall upper respiratory Inflammation is improved. I attribute this to Xtend Life. I've had other benefits from the supplements, too many to count.

Mid Afternoon Energy...

I am sure that many readers of this blog, like me, work long hours…14 plus per day, and weekends as well.

I had hoped that I would have been able to back off a bit by now…and, I still aim to do so by early next year when some of our development work eases back a bit and the demand for my input lessens. I want to have more time for studying what ‘makes us tick’ and be able to pass on what I learn.

99% of the time I have plenty of energy and have no problem with sustaining this work load. However, I confess that I have the odd day that around mid afternoon I feel a bit weary for an hour or two, and then the energy returns automatically. I am sure that this is a pretty common complaint which is why many people turn to their mid-afternoon cup of coffee, or energy drink.

Eyes...How do you protect them from degeneration?

blueeye_11.jpgMy father in law is 91 years of age. He has enjoyed good health most of his life up until he was about 80 and even since then it has been pretty good compared to most. No doubt a factor in his good health has been due to him being a keen gardener and up until recently grew all his own organic vegetables.

BUT, about a year ago his eyesight started to fail, and he is now blind!

Beware of Berkeley Premium Nutraceuticals!

I have alluded to these people before as they are one of the minority of companies that bring the dietary supplement industry into disrepute. (These are the people that run the 'Smiling Bob; adverts.)

It is bad enough that they have been selling overpriced products that do not do what they claim, but they are also guilty of defrauding customers by billing their credit cards and shipping unwanted products.

They have been following a practice which is still quite common so you should be aware of it.

This is what they and other dubious companies do…
